Testing power installations in healthcare facilities

Testing power installations in healthcare facilities

A correctly installed and maintained power installation is a basic requirement for the safe and smooth operation of a healthcare facility, and also saves costs for the operator.
In the event of internal errors or a failure of the public power grid, a power supply to important in some cases life-supporting equipment and system sections has to be ensured.
TÜV AUSTRIA has decades of experience in the field of power supplies for healthcare facilities. With our experts’ know-how, we are happy to offer support for building, planning and operating power installations in healthcare facilities.
The additional requirements on power supplies for healthcare facilities can be found in ÖVE/ÖNORM E 8007 and in the preceding standard ÖVE-EN 7 (the regulations applicable at the time of construction generally apply). These standards are, or were, declared binding by means of the Electrical Engineering Order (Elektrotechnikverordnung) and thus have to be applied.
It should be noted that ÖVE/ÖNORM E 8007 applies not only for hospitals, outpatient clinics for human medicine and dentistry, nursing homes and sanatoriums but also for medically used rooms in human medicine and dentistry outside hospitals (e.g. medical practices and surgeries). The standard not only makes demands on the construction of the electrical system but also contains the scope of testing for the initial inspection (before commissioning). What’s more, the intervals and scope of testing for the periodic tests can also be found in the standard.
