This year’s winner was Ralf Kleinfeld, who, as the information security officer at OTTO GmbH & Co KG, has been responsible for information security there since 2013.

The area of responsibility and the variety of tasks of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) are on the increase. That is why TÜV TRUST IT together with the consulting firm CARMAO have launched the CISO Award.

Second place went to Sandra Cleven from the communications service provider htp GmbH ahead of Gerhard Gayer from Berufsgenossenschaft Holz und Metall [German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the woodworking and metalworking industries]. All three winning projects focus on practical implementation of awareness efforts at the companies. This was the result of an analysis of the submissions based on predefined evaluation criteria, which was not linked to the classification of the project type. The evaluation criteria included the creativity of solutions and their benefits as well as feasibility, future orientation and transferability.

“Establishing an award for this target group is not only intended to enhance the reputation of CISOs, but rather to also serve as a platform to discuss innovations in the field of IT security,” stressed CARMAO CEO Ulrich Heun. “For that reason, the CISO Award, along with all of its initiatives, can also be seen as a stimulus for broader public discussion,” added Detlev Henze, CEO of TÜV TRUST IT.

The CISO Award will be conferred annually in the future and is to honor the growing importance of IT security managers. This year’s Award was presented on the 20th of November on CISO Day 2018 in Limburg (Germany).

The CISO Award will return 2019!
